HEX Alumni Series: How an Entrepreneurial Mindset Changed the Way I Learn

At HEX, we believe that entrepreneurial thinking is more than just starting a business—it's a powerful lens through which to view the world.

Our alumni consistently tell us how their HEX experience transforms not just their approach to business, but their entire educational journey.

Here's how our Global Internship Program gave Jayden Lund, a final year Environmental Economics and Policy student at the University of California Berkeley, provided him with a unique lens to view environmental challenges through both Western and Eastern perspectives.

How an Entrepreneurial Mindset Changed the Way I Learn:

Six months ago, I had the opportunity to participate in the HEX International entrepreneurship program in Ho Chi Minh City, a two-week immersive experience that completely reshaped how I approach learning, problem-solving, and even my own startup, Renzu.

The program wasn’t just about building a startup—it was about building a mindset. Through workshops, guest lectures, and a culminating pitch event, I learned how to think like an entrepreneur: embracing uncertainty, identifying opportunities, and constantly iterating on ideas. But what’s surprised me the most is how that mindset has transformed the way I engage with my classes at Berkeley.

In econometrics, I started noticing the parallels between venture capital decision-making and data-driven analysis—both require making informed bets based on limited information. Through climate change economics, I saw how startups can drive sustainability by aligning incentives with long-term environmental impact. Even in my class on Buddhist philosophy, I found unexpected connections—like how Eastern and Western approaches to leadership, adaptability, and resilience can be fused to create more thoughtful, purpose-driven companies.

As I head into my final semester at Berkeley, I’m excited to take these lessons beyond the classroom and into my career. While working on Renzu has given me firsthand experience in building something from the ground up, I’m eager to apply this mindset in my next role—continuing to solve problems, drive innovation, and create impact.”
